Product description
Patricia Urquiola approached the outdoors starting from the theme of woven patterns-reviving and personalising the concept with a traditional look in mind, but giving it a decisively contemporary look without using too much nostalgic influence. Vienna straw, with its decorative geometric shape, was her element of inspiration. She amplified the traditional pattern, increasing it to macro-proportions compared to the original, and used it to make a beautiful line of comfortable chairs and sofas. Sofas in two dimensions, with high and low backrest, an armchair with the same alternatives, a large circular armchair and a bed/chaise-longue, make up the Canasta collection: all made in polyethylene plastic, a material that guarantees sturdiness, lightness and durability over time. The woven pattern is created from a strip which has a width of 30 mm (a strip with a width of 15 mm is used only for the chaise-longue) in two different colours: white and bronze. The chairs are completed with fixed or removable cushions in several different fabric combinations: plain colours and melanges matched with striped and flowered patterns in shades of beige, purple and brown. These comfortable, anatomically shaped chairs are ideal for the swimming pool area or on the garden lawn. They’re like pieces of land art, integrating and harmonizing with the surrounding scenery.

Home living magazines announced the "multicultural furniture" trend, the "ethno-style" and "intercultural design" trend. The new color frenzy is being judged as an expression of overcoming a "design style" which is far too plain and of the need for individuality and unconventionality. The world of design seems to have opened up to foreign creative styles.

A chair is a chair and a table is a table and so on and so forth... That is correct and yet incorrect. For the symbolic qualities of the things that surround us daily are by no means as functional as a chic hat on a bonehead. Yet even symbolism has its pitfalls.
