Biography

Graduated from Manchester Polytechnic
1st Class BA Hons Industrial Design 1980
Master of Design of Royal College of Art, London in 1983

He began his professional Career working with industrial design studios in London and Stuttgart before moving to Paris in 1984, upon invitation of Knoll international, becoming author of the highly successful Alessandri office system and other office projects which remain in production. Whilst in Paris he was a member of the Atelier de Nimes with Philippe Stark and Jean Nouvel. He returned to London in late 1987, he has completed projects with many different companies in the field of product and furniture design, creating a unique variety of culturally and commercially prominent pieces, including his FOB chair for Cappellini Spa in Italy.

Winner of numerous international awards his work has been extensively published and exhibited internationally including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum NY, Axis Centre, Japan, Pompidou Centre, Paris and the Design Museum, London, when in 1993 he curated the first Permanent Collection. Most recently, his work was shown in a solo exhibition: "Ross Lovegrove - Design" at the Danish Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen, "Ross Lovegrove Objects" in Stockholm, "Organic Dreams" at IDEE in Tokyo and "Sensual Organic Design" at Yamagiwa Corporation in Tokyo. At the beginning of this year, RL has been elected "designer of the year 2001". Current projects in progress include the interior studies for the new Airbus A3XX, the largest commercial aircraft ever to be developed seating 680 passengers, due in service in 2005.

The first class advanced interior for Japan Airlines for 2003 and the complete diversification programme for Tag Heuer, Switzerland due for launch in 2001. New lighting typologies for Luceplan, Italy, a new chair for Alias Spa Italy, as well as a new plastic product development for Fratelli Guzzini Spa, Italy, and advanced injection moulded shower cabinets for Teuco in Recanati, Italy. Last, but not least his cooperation in our Loom project.
