CM 191

Model patented by Pierre Paulin on 26th February 1959 under the number 90523 (even if it seems to have been marketed earlier than that), its purity makes it a timeless low table highly sought after by admirers. It was one of the loveliest designs he produced for Thonet France, with whom he worked between 1952 and 1959.

The CM 191 table still featured on the cover of the Thonet catalogue and leaflet in 1960. It was with Thonet that Pierre Paulin is said to have learnt his craft, ‘working on the factory floor’. Doubly influenced by Anglo-Saxon and Japanese design, resisting the decorative and the superfluous, he could give free rein to his search for the absolute in terms of form, minimal, pared-down and entirely focused on usage. To this end he collaborated closely with the technicians in the metalwork and woodwork shops. From this period Ligne Roset have also reissued the CM 141 desk (under the name Tanis) and CM 194 fireside chair (under the name Archi).
