After many years working for others, Thorsten van Elten finally stepped into the big wide world of furniture, lighting and home accessories and set up on his own in 2002.
Thorsten van Elten, Great Britain
First he wanted to build a small collection of accessories and lighting. Over the years he had got very frustrated with the amount of talent out there and the lack of manufacturing facilities, so he found himself a few young London-based designers who were happy to work with him on a small collection of products.
He showed his first range of products at 100% Design in September that year including products by Alexander Taylor, Ed Carpenter, mosleymeetswilcox and Sam Johnson.
He first showed during the Milan Furniture Fair with Designersblock in April 2003.
September 2003 saw his second collection of products including more products by Alexander Taylor, Ed Carpenter, mosleymeetswilcox and Sam Johnson alongside products by Barnaby Barford & André Klauser, Gavin Coultrip, Richard Shed, Rose Cobb.
Since then Thorsten has regularly launched his new designs not only at 100% Design but also at the Milan Furniture Fair.
October 2004 saw the opening of his shop in London’s Fitzrovia, where he shows his own collection alongside products he distributes in the UK and other interesting items he thinks sit well together.
The most recent step sees the introduction of the first internet - shop.
He will continue to try and find interesting and innovative products to feature so keep coming back for a look.
Thank you and hopefully see you soon.
