Domotex: individualization thanks to "Customized Living"

A large selection of carpets and other floor coverings are on show at the Domotex trade fair in Hanover from January 14-17. The range of products on display ranges from handmade carpets through parquet and laminate coverings to new wovens. Taking as its theme "Customized Living", the trade fair this year focuses specifically on the trend to individualized interior designs.

Swissbau: solutions for sustainable building

With more than 1,200 exhibitors from 21 different countries, the Swissbau construction and property trade fair will run in Basel from January 17-21. Supported by an extensive accompanying program of guided tours, workshops and panel discussions, the focus this year is on energy efficiency and sustainability.

Bauhaus Archive: black-and-white photos of the Katsura Imperial Villa

Walter Gropius and Bruno Taut considered it a paramount example of successful architecture. But only a select few ever received permission to photograph the Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto. One of them was Ishimoto Yasuhiro, whose black-and-white images are now on show in the exhibition "The Katsura Imperial Villa" at Berlin's Bauhaus Archive from January 18 – March 12.

Vitra Design Museum: green design à la Werner Aisslinger and Volker Albus

Is sustainability in design but a short-lived trend or a sign of a fundamental change in values? This hot topic is discussed by Werner Aisslinger, who has just developed a chair made of hemp, and Volker Albus, from the Karlsruhe Academy of Design – at the "Green Design – Fashion of Paradigm Shift" event that will take place on January 19 at Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.

DMY Berlin: apply now!

Not only design studios and institutions, but also colleges and young talents have until February 17 to apply to take part in the DMY Berlin international design festival. In June, the hangars of the former Tempelhof Airport will again be transformed into a platform for contemporary products, processes and ideas. Moreover, anyone interested can also opt for a presentation in one of the offsite venues in the city of Berlin.
