Wenn Kubus und Körper zueinanderfinden.

Joe Colombo designed the “Impronta” chair back in 1954, when he was still attending the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and Milan’s Polytechnic. Preliminary sketches reveal that Colombo intensively explored the relationship between body and seat from an early stage onward. In order to achieve the desired proportions and ergonomics, and ensure a relaxed sitting position, he basically subtracted the outline formed by a human sitting comfortably from a cube shape. But as with other successful designs the precision work on the resulting lines was also decisive. No doubt about it: “Impronta” is still an impressive object today. And thanks to an integrated drainage system is also suitable for outdoor use. (tw)
