Product description

The design of this gymnasium at Torshavn is simple in concept, flexible in use and also very attractive. Architects BBP Arkitekter won the design and build competition together with turnkey contractor MT Hojgaard.
The architects were particularly concerned to avoid the traditional image of gymnasia which are often echoing, cold and not particularly user-friendly places. Instead they opted for a warm, welcoming and inviting design where both users and spectators could enjoy the activities and social interaction.

To achieve this, particularly to eliminate the sounds of play, bouncing balls and distracting noise, carefully considered acoustic design has played an large and important part. This is why the architects opted to specify Troldekt acoustic ceilings throughout. One wall of the gymnasium also features a single row of Troldtekt panels in various shades of red which were spray-painted in situ. To improve the overall design, instead of traditional old-fashioned suspended light fittings, a clean unbroken surface has been created by integrating within the ceiling transverse Troldtekt lighting strips in the gymnasium and circular ones over the corridors.

Troldtekt panels are made from 100% natural materials; wood from Danish forests and cement produced by Aalborg Portland, Denmark. The structure of Troldtekt panels provides a basis for excellent sound absorption, and using Troldtekt ceilings will, therefore, reduce noise and provide optimal room acoustics. Troldtekt is available in a high number of combinations that vary according to surface structure, edge, installation system, colour, dimension and thickness.
