There is a special awareness nowadays which is best expressed in the complementary combination of natural elements with more sophisticated, man-made products, an awareness which is anything but abstract or complex, but instead down-to-earth, simple, direct and capable of seamlessly matching the unpredictable variety of the mineral and organic world with the uniformity and rationality of high-tech products. Gervasoni has interpreted this awareness in all its furniture collections, drawing on its extensive experience in plaiting and weaving. The focus on craft quality, respect for the environment and the constant search for new materials and coordination possibilities are all elements in an ideal system which guides and supports corporate policies, producing a timeless array of collections, both classic and ultra-modern in style.
In November 1999 the quality of Gervasoni products was recognised and certified by the ISO 9001 quality system certificate. This overall quality is founded on unvarying emphasis on a group of precise and individual features and the individual functional and aesthetic qualities of the materials used, researching and analysing their more specific aspects.
Cane, rattan core, Manila, rattan, abaca, bamboo, alginate, parchment, opus signinum, Malacca cane, black walnut, deal, aluminium, iron and sandstone: in Gervasoni collections both common and exotic materials (almost always used in their natural state) are combined in elementary shapes, characterised by the variations in surface textures; coarseness, roughness and unevenness (and smoothness, geometry and symmetrical repetition too) open up the furniture to space, air and light, working directly on the actual material, unexpectedly seen in its most commonplace and fortuitous (and hence more homely and comfortable) form.
