Zurich, 1889. The young Heinrich Girsberger opened a small turner's shop. His height-adjustable piano stool attracted considerable attention in 1893. Around 1930 - when schoolteachers used rulers to make children sit upright - he launched the first spring-mounted, rotating, and height-adjustable office chair.
The first venture abroad came in 1963 with the establishment of a subsidiary: Girsberger GmbH in Endingen (Germany). In 1979, the company made landfall on another continent by setting up Girsberger Industries, Inc. in Smithfield, North Carolina (USA). And in 1992, Tuna Girsberger in Istanbul (Turkey) opened the door to Asian markets.
