Filled and empty spaces: a new way of interpreting coach hide from MATTEOGRASSI.
Franco Poli's research on the potential of one of the oldest materials known to man has had surprising results. He discovered a series of "surface patterns" with extraordinary properties (that could also touch branches of science that are not normally taken into consideration in the field of design).
Today, we are proud to present "LOOM", the first tangible fruit of this fascinating study.

"LOOM is proof of how a two-dimensional surface like a piece of coach hide, with holes in the right places, can take on the shape of a niche or a three-dimensional recessed area with many ergonomic properties normally associated with fabric, such as coolness and breathability, adaptation to the human body, controlled elasticity and - last but not least - transparency ...
It became clear with the first prototype that LOOM was well suited to the body at rest. It could provide regular, elastic support even for unconventional or extremely relaxed positions. It's hard to imagine something similar to a hammock being as comfortable as a chaise longue.
The technical-aesthetic texture of the coach hide net used in making LOOM remains inside a continuous frame that is fixed to a stainless steel frame by using special adhesive glues. This solution puts together the two materials in a unique way, while emphasising the elaborate design of an apparently simple project.

The thick leather used for LOOM is cut with a new high-frequency machine, a product of an innovative technological concept. The coach hide is finished by hand, a traditional characteristic of MATTEOGRASSI products, while the load-bearing structure is made of stainless steel with laser-cut parts that are then hand finished and polished. Entirely designed and manufactured in Italy. "
