descripción de productos

A perfectly designed interplay of supporting lines and enclosing surfaces defines the elegant S840 chair. It offers great comfort as well as a warm and lively impression brought about by the material combination of fine wood with metal and high value textiles typical of Thonet. With the characteristic seat shell in connection with the svelte steel tubing frames, the S 840 unfolds its exceptional ambient effect.

The premium aesthetics of the S 840 exist in the accentuated constructive separation of the frame and seat shell. The moulded wood seat shell exhibits formal analogies to automobile design in the surface blanking, where this process is used in chassis production – transferred, however, to the material wood at Thonet. The result is a clear, elegant silhouette. With its out-on-a-limb aesthetic claim, the S 840 is recommendable not just as a conference chair but also as a high-value piece of furniture for private dining and workspaces.

The S 840 is available with the classic Thonet cantilevered frame, as a swivel four-footed model and now also with a five-footed stand frame on castors. The four-footed model is fitted with a return mechanism which ensures that the seat shell automatically adjusts to the frame. The seat element consists of moulded plywood; through the use of different exotic wood veneers and coverings, the character of the chair can be varied and adjusted to any furnishing environment. The frames are available in high-quality chrome plated tubular steel. The S 840 is available both with normal and higher seat-back; a shoulder support is also available as a further option.

The activist

In the 1930s, Charlotte Perriand was convinced that it was necessary to fight for a better future. Not only did she strive for new forms in design, but she also sought to improve social conditions through design and architecture. She employed large photo collages on which she had applied layers of writing to communicate her political and social messages. The Museum of Design in Zurich is now holding an exhibition dedicated to these works.
