Flötotto, Allemagne

Based in the westphalian town of Rietberg, FLÖTOTTO is one of the leading and most renowned furniture brands with more than a hundred years of history. Especially the „Formsitz" - a seat made from steamed wood, has become an icon of German postwar design.
The most important and distinctive system of modular funiture, however, remains the famous FLÖTOTTO-„Profilsystem" with its distinctive frame moulding. The Profilsystem's production conditions have essentially remained almost unaltered for the last 35 years as well as the high quality standards: It stays as heard-wearing, simple and modern as it always was. Furthermore, by collaborating with internationally renowned designers however, FLÖTOTTO always tries to reinterpret its product lines in a contemporary way for modern homes. The most recent example: The shelving system „355".
Continuity is also maintained within the company's structure and owners. Frederik Flötotto, the original founder's great-great-grandson, continues the family tradition as CEO. Of course, FLÖTOTTO funiture pieces are made in Germany.
Altogether, the Elmar Flötotto Holding, of which FLÖTOTTO is a part, has just under 60 employees.
Since the 1970s, FLÖTOTTO distributes its products per direct marketing (per catalogue, internet, and shop) only. Germany is the core market, but FLÖTOTTO also exports to Austria, Switzerland, Benelux and Denmark. In September 2009, FLÖTOTTO opened its first new factory outlet in Rietberg-Varensell.

At this year’s imm cologne the “Featured Editions” exhibition, created in collaboration with Stylepark, formed an integral component of the new “Pure Editions” hall concept used to strengthen the trade fair’s position within the high-end segment, a concept that proved to be an instant success. The Barcelona Pastiche

The imm Cologne is swiftly getting back on an even keel. And how are designers and manufacturers making use of the opportunity? A tour of the trade fair shows that they often resorted to the tried-and-true, reanimating and dressing it up for contemporary use. Even Konstantin Grcic opted for a tongue-in-cheek approach to a design classic.
