MYTO Chair by Konstantin Grcic for Plank
by Daniel von Bernstorff | 20 juillet 2007
Konstantin Grcic has impressively reconfirmed his reputation as Germany's most innovative product designer. In the extremely short development time of only one year from idea to mature series product, together with BASF KGID developed a cantilever-based chair which is made exclusively from fully synthetic Ultradur® High Speed for the Italian manufacturer Plank who also manufactured the prize-winning barstool, Miura.

In summer 2006, BASF invited a selection of designers to workshops in order to explore the creative possibilities of the completely synthetic material. The idea to make a chair emerged quickly - a chair that would fulfill particularly discerning requirements as regards both design and manufacture. From the very outset, Italian manufacturer Plank was involved in the process. Given the close cooperation of participants and the creative energy this sparked MYTO was created in just one year. Grcic himself calculates about three years for similar projects. "To realize such a project with a group of experts in just one year is unparalleled and the this has a visionary design character," says Grcic.

MYTO will be officially presented at the K 2007, the world's most important trade fair for plastics, held in Düsseldorf from October 24-31.
