Kosmos 'Oris
Summary
The Kosmos 'Oris is a special unit used by people with a message. The speaker stands on a higher level so the public stays focused. The Kosmos 'Oris was created as an answer to a special request from the Design Museum Ghent.
During conferences it is often found that people aren't really listening. Usually this is due to the fact they can't see or hear the person speaking. Dirk Wynants did some research on where this same problem had already occurred and had also been solved. That is how he thought of his past. Every week he had to attend mass, where the priest always spoke to the crowd from a pulpit.
That is where the inspiration came from. Based on his latest design the Kosmos, he created the Kosmos 'Oris.
Any speaker standing in the Kosmos 'Oris is seen and heard, the public is attentive and captures his words. It is an ideal tool for anyone with any kind of message.

The Kosmos 'Oris is a special unit that helps a person to deliver a speech, a message or a lecture. Dirk Wynants has created the 'Oris as an answer to a request from the Design Museum in Ghent. The problem started in the lectures the Design Museum was giving. They noticed that during these lectures, unfortunately not many people were really paying attention. Often they couldn't see or hear the lecturer, which is why they lost interest and started talking to each other.
To solve this problem, Dirk looked for answers in his past. As a small boy he had to attend mass every week where he was faced with the priest in his pulpit. The pulpit is the perfect tool for a priest to bring his sermon. It has a higher level, a desk with a rail around it and above it, an abundantly decorated ceiling with, in the centre a dove that symbolizes the Messenger. The priest was situated high above the crowd so that he could look everyone in the eyes. His gestures were clearly visible and gave strength to his words.
Back to 2009 and keeping his newest creation, the Kosmos, in mind Dirk saw the solution. The Kosmos has the round form of the balcony, the flat surface of its parasol simulates the ceiling and the lamp replaces the dove.
The proportions of the Kosmos were adjusted and as a whole the unit was baptized "Kosmos 'Oris". "Oris" is the plural form of "os" and signifies "mouth" in Latin, which refers to the act of speaking. In Flemish "Oris" sounds like "hoor eens" which means "listen up". Moreover Dirk's very religious grandmother's surname was "Oris".
In the 'Oris, the speaker stands on a higher level and has a good view over the public. There is a step provided that can be flipped over, so that even small people can be seen properly. The parasol reflects the light of the lamp, so that the speaker can read his notes, and his appearance and body language are emphasized.
The Kosmos 'Oris fulfills the needs of modern times. On the large desk there is enough space provided for a reading shelf, a laptop and some notes. There is also room for two large bottles of water that are kept out of public's sight. There is an extra shelf with plenty of space to put several accessories, such as a laptop, a charger or a sound amplifier. The remote controls for the lighting and sockets are built in.
