Während dieser Periode traf er in den USA mit Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius und Mies van der Rohe zusammen. Zurück in Europa öffnete er 1955 sein Büro in Mailand. In den folgenden Jahrzehnten übernahm er Gastprofessuren u.a. auf Hawaii, in Lausanne, Adelaide und in Mailand. 1989 gründete er zusammen mit japanischen Partnern Mangiarotti & Associates Office in Tokio. Seine Leistungen als Architekt und als Produktdesigner wurden mit zahlreichen internationalen Preisen ausgezeichnet.
