Nach Stationen bei Conran Design Group und Habitat gründete er 1993 mit Pengelly Design sein eigenes Studio, das für Unternehmen aus England, Italien und den USA arbeitet: Allermuir, Boss, Habitat, Isokon Plus, Lapalma, Modus, Hitch Mylius und Arper. In Pengellys Kreationen mischen sich Design und Planung auf raffinierte Weise, basierend auf seinem Sinn fürs Pragmatische, a uf der Sensibilität gegenüber den Besonderheiten von Materialien und Herstellungsprozessen sowie auf dem Wunsch, Möbel zu entwerfen, die Persönlichkeit und zeitlose Faszination ausstrahlen.
