Børge’s peace and comfort – 2213 and 2204 from FREDERICIA Furniture Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) was a man with a mission – a mission to design non-intrusive furniture that offered excellent support for lying and sitting positions – as clearly evidenced by
his three-seater sofa 2213 and his 2204 Wing Chair. Comfortable furniture designed to adorn and exude calm. Børge got the idea of relocating outside Copenhagen – out into the fresh country air to live in a house he himself had designed. Having bought a p
lot of land north of Copenhagen, he designed a two-storey house for himself and his family. Following occupancy in 1958, he needed a new sofa – one long enough to allow Børge to lie down in – but not so long that it could not fit between two tables. The s
ofa was given the name 2213 and was upholstered in durable black leather. He imposed the same stringent demands on his armchair as he did on his sofa. Børge wanted to design a winged armchair so he could read and take a nap when he needed while being shie
lded from the outside world. The inspiration for the chair’s graphic shape with its curved back and rounded armrests came from his old mentor Kaare Klint and a sofa series he had designed in the 1920s. The chair was given the name 2204. All the upholstery
on 2213 and 2204 incorporates visible chain stitching, making the sofas extremely durable and giving the furniture a sharp, elegant appearance. The 2200 series has been called Børge Mogensen’s most comfortable collection – and rightly so! 2213 and 2004 a
re upholstered in vegetable leather so they match a colour-coordinated interior in FREDERICIA Furniture’s Flagship Store. The furniture will subsequently be on sale in carefully selected design stores throughout the country.
