Ein Hauch von neuer Sachlichkeit

Quo vadis, Möbeldesign? Das verrät der diesjährige Salone del Mobile erst in Ansätzen. Eine Analyse in unserem Messerückblick.
Benjamin Hubert Ltd has designed a new, stackable dining chair for Italian brand Moroso. The new chair is part of the same family as the ‘Talma’ lounge chair that launched at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan 2013.
As with the lounge chair, the ‘Talma’ dining chair is named after a type of cloak that describes the chair’s construction. It is based around the concept of ‘fashion for furniture’, and comprises a softly padded textile wrapped around a lightweight CNC-shaped steel framework, mirroring the way a cloak would wrap the body. The ‘Talma’ dining chair is available with or without arms. The chair’s cover is made using a textile developed by the studio in collaboration with Dutch textile manufacturer, Innofa. The edges of the cover are trimmed in leather, to seal the fabric, and it fastens to the frame using a series of zips. The complex pattern making for the cover was created entirely in-house by Benjamin Hubert Ltd’s experienced team of designers.
The dining chair stems from the studio’s ‘Materials driven, process led, industrial design approach’ and research into the traditional construction of upholstered chairs with a view to reducing the material, weight and cost of this typology of product.
