Product description

Le Corbusier designed this large sofa with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand for the living room of his apartment on rue Nungesser-et-Coli 24 in Paris where, in 1934, he moved to with his wife Yvonne. The apartment, which is still located on the top floor of the building, was divided into two parts, one dedicated to his atelier and the other to his private life.

The LC5 sofa was re-edited for the first time by Cassina in 1974 in one single size with a chrome frame. Following a thorough analysis of archival documentation, carried out in collaboration with the Le Corbusier Foundation and the heirs of the co-authors, the sofa has today been redeveloped with new finishes and larger proportions compared to this first edition. Cassina, with respect for the authenticity and idea of the authors, has developed this project using the original sofa from the Parisian apartment as reference. The back-rest which continues down to the base of the frame and the large cushions, padded with feathers, favour a more comfortable seat. The metal frame, with its contemporary and immediately recognisable form, is now available in the seven colours of the collection.
