“Giro”: Alessi launching UN Studio cutlery

Architects cannot only create great things, but can also master the art of small formats – as Arne Jacobsen and Walter Gropius, among others, proved with their cutlery and tableware designs. In the wake of Peter Zumthor, who roughly five years ago teamed up with Alessi to bring out a sugar shaker and other useful vessels, Dutch architecture office UN Studio has now collaborated with the Italians, too. The result: stainless steel cutlery with a curve that runs across the handle. This design detail ensures that “Giro”, and there are 12 items in the set, lies sweetly in the hand, and not least references the characteristic helix shape that repeatedly crops up in UN Studio’s architecture.
