New York: Snøhetta has given Times Square a face life

The architects of Snøhetta have given the public space in Times Square a new face that has now been officially opened together with the NYC Department of Transportation and the Department of Design and Construction as well as the Times Square Alliance. Since New York’s most famous intersection was closed to cars once and for all in 2009 Snøhetta has come up with a uniform design for the ground, the signage and the public furniture for the space between Broadway, 7th Avenue as well as 42nd and 47th Street. At the same time, the area available only for pedestrian traffic has doubled. Times Square draws 45 million visitors a year and is thus one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York, let alone the United States of America. (mm)
