In 1984, he founded the office Wiel Arets Architect & Associates in Heerlen, which subsequently moved to Maastricht in 1996. He has lectured all over the world at academies and universities in London, Vienna and New York and other cities. He currently holds the Berlage professorship at the Technical University of Delft.
