Product description

Christophe Pillet is an internationally renowned French designer, with a reputation for demanding quality in interior design. He takes the technical aspect of his work extremely seriously and likes to involve expert manufacturers in his projects. One such

example is the Mendes France model, developed in partnership with Fermob. The original chair was created back in 2009 for Lycée Mendès France, a sixth-form college in Marseille. In line with French law, 1% of the budget of all public architecture project

s has to be assigned to artistic projects, and a decision was made to commission a design project to reflect the technical bias of the institution concerned. The challenge was to produce a chair that could compete with the Mullca steel tube and wood schoo

l chair designed by Jacques Hitier in 1949. Christophe Pillet took up the challenge. With the specific demands of public institution furniture in mind (versatile, comfortable, robust, easy to handle and stacking), he set himself the goal of producing some

thing «both technical and attractive». He selected sheet steel as his material and Fermob as his manufacturer, reflecting his desire to combine the creative process with the expertise of a leading French company. After a year of development work, the Mend

es France chair was born, now taking pride of place in the new Fermob Idoles collection.
