The printed durries series uses a combination of traditional Indian handicraft techniques. The durrie is pure cotton, woven in the desert region of Rajasthan; the decoration is silkscreened by hand. The patterns take inspiration from the motifs of block p
rinting. Traditionally, durries were used as rugs in the spacious residences of the local maharaja. Typically featuring wide stripes, they became a thin second floor before the advent of carpeting. Block printing is an art that uses wooden blocks engraved
with floral patterns for inking cotton or silk fabrics. Traditional designs are very intricate, printed one color at a time.
