Nordhavn sends a textile message
by Fabian Peters | 12/8/2017
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec not only dream up textile designs for Kvadrat. They have also for the second time designed the label’s Copenhagen flagship showroom.
Velvet Stripe is an upholstery textile that introduces a sophisticated, low-pile cotton velvet construction to Paul Smith’s ongoing exploration of stripes for Maharam. Constructed in mercerised cotton velvet, it features a refined, midscale pattern of coloured stripes that runs from selvedge to selvedge. A playful twist on a classic design, Velvet Stripe has a vibrant yet subtle expression of colour. The stripes repeat at varying intervals, emphasising a rhythmic play of density, colour saturation and proportion. The textile’s fine, densely woven yarns deliver rich colours that are complimented by the sophisticated lustre of the mercerised cotton. In keeping with Paul Smith’s trademark of unexpected palettes, Velvet Stripe mixes apparel associated neutral tones with bright nuances.
