Galerie Parisa Kind in Frankfurt/Main is showcasing works by designer Pierre Paulin for the first time in Germany, juxtaposing them to paintings by his long-term friend Christoph von Weyhe.
Very conscious of both usage and new materials, Pierre Paulin specified one face of the flap door of his ‘small wall secretaire’ in German-designed black Resopal laminate, the first such product in the world, designed in 1930. A taste for simple forms and natural materials, practical functionality, light volumes and space-saving: 62 years after the 1953 salon des Arts Ménagers, have the public’s requirements really changed? Ligne Roset’s response: the 2015 reissue of the ‘Secrétaire mural’ by Pierre Paulin, a designer who was most assuredly ahead of his time, even if he shrugged this off with false modesty: “I never thought myself to be ahead of my time. Perhaps it was the others who were behind…”
