Mazargues recalls the French forged ironwork of the Fifties. Here, Eric Jourdan’s references are Pierre Guariche, Michel Mortier and Joseph- André Motte, the 1954 founders of the ARP (Atelier de Recherche Plastique). These 3 designers hoped to turn the codes of classicism on their head by designing new forms to create more accessible pieces of furniture. The major pieces of the 20th Century arose from this new and fruitful association.
To Eric Jourdan, this is a return to the work he did on the OKURA settee in 2015 : a modern, simple and expressive work, very French, with links to the tradition of the Arts décoratifs. Sketched-out lines in dark wood on a black base (a long way from the Scandinavian design of the same era!).
European walnut. Black lacquered steel base.
