The PAPYRUS is an iconic chair designed by Pierre Guariche in 1954. The thermoformed plywood shell creates a refined organic profile that balances visual lightness with structural support. The slender metal base provides a disciplined contrast to the warm, modelled wood and accentuates the object’s architectural lines. With its sculptural yet restrained expression, the PAPYRUS adapts easily to both residential and contract interiors, bringing a timeless presence to dining rooms, meeting spaces and reception areas.

The chair’s production relies on precision forming techniques and careful finishing to achieve the shell’s smooth contours and tactile quality. The pairing of moulded plywood and a minimal steel frame yields an economy of means while ensuring durability and comfort. Ergonomic shaping of the back and seat provides comfortable support for extended use without compromising the minimalist silhouette. Variations in finish and stain allow the material character of the veneer to be emphasised, creating different atmospheres according to context. Through its considered proportions and craftsmanship, the PAPYRUS communicates lasting aesthetic clarity and functional reliability suited to contemporary architectural settings.
