Pillow talk with Peter Maly
The Rythmus woven rugs have backgrounds in sober colours (argile or gris bleu) enlivened by a repetition of horizontal stripes, themselves segmented into 2, 3 or 4 parts, sometimes divided in two along their length. Peter Maly thus successfully creates a geometric rhythm underscored by the subtle tones (black, white, red and green) of the various parts of the lines. The arrangement, proportions and repetitions of the Rythmus rug are clearly inspired by musical chromaticism where cadences are coloured by the tones of instruments, and by the poetic world where vowels have colours: A black, E white, I red, U green (Arthur Rimbaud). The ‘musical mathematics’ of Bach is no longer very far away.
