If there’s a connection between a place and the people who live there, with all their objects and homes, it’s Venice, a city unavoidably linked to water.
Water as a means of transport, as distance to be traversed, as power linked to the flow of the tides and the phase of the moon; water as an insidious infiltration in our daily lives capable of flooding our streets and seeping into our homes, leaving its stain wherever it goes.
Doge is the projection of a city in permanent relation with water: the simplicity of its tubular structures recall the network of walkways the city throws up on days the sea comes pouring in. As soft and light as fine drapery, the chair’s silk upholstery proposes the patterns of the plastering on the city’s walls corroded by salty sea water as a decorative motif.
Doge is the story of an imaginary topography constructed using a materiality that in the traces left by the sea expresses the delicate balance by which it is distinguished.
