Silence behind glass
prpm Architekten + Stadtplaner GmbH have realized “Tassilo,” a new residential complex spanning 225 freehold apartments, in the Munich borough of Au-Haidhausen. In order to ensure quiet living and a great deal of privacy despite the central location, the architects decided to arrange the balconies of the U-shaped development in wave-like form and connect them to a large green courtyard. In addition, the balconies and ground-floor terraces of the apartments, which range from one-room homes to three-bedroom residences, have been enclosed using glazing by Solarlux.
The balcony glazing SL 25 provides an acoustic shield without impeding the view of the outside world. The slide-and-swing elements can be opened inwards and completely pushed to the side. This enables optimal usage of the outside space at any time of year in a similar way a conservatory would. The glazing provides a temperature buffer that benefits the climate on the balcony and inside the apartment. Fresh air circulation is ensured by the narrow gaps between the slide-and-swing elements. The sustainable construction of the building, which meets Efficiency House standards, is further enhanced by environmentally friendly offerings for the residents, for example the provision of special charging stations for electric vehicles in the housing complex’s underground parking garage.
