The vine as a leitmotiv
2/14/2011

The Hungarian winery "Bazaltbor", which was designed by the Budapest architects Plant, is in the wine-growing region Badacsony. The shell of the building at the winery is completely clad with pre-fabricated fine concrete façade panels. In the transition section to outside the concrete panels adopt the texture of the vines. In places where natural light was needed for the interiors the architects replaced the concrete panels with glass cladding or a perforated metal panel. The vine motif extends across the glass and metal building parts, combining the different materials.

In the basement, where the barrels in which the wine matures are stored, the new vault is based on old wine cellars and features a small-brick wall structure. The diagonal configuration of the clinkers gives the structure of the vault an elaborately woven finish.
