Caramel

Four thin sheets of metal appear to be gracefully balancing on top of each other. Together they form the highly functional and sculptural side table Caramel, a temporary workstation in a meeting place and a striking object that pleases both the public and the private spheres.

Caramel is a functional side table with a sculptural shape. Side tables in an office environment tend to have a typical expression of office furniture. We wanted to break away from that tendency and design a table that could function very well in an office environment as well as in a very sensitive domestic space, explains Mårten Claesson. The metal sheets that form Caramel, is an exercise in geometry and perception. We have played with one shape, set in different angles that together create a very playful body. The structure invokes curiosity both when using it up close as well as seeing it from afar, describes Eero Koivisto.
