Gong and Tiara have gathered the charm of traditional Chinese lanterns, being inspired by their shape, to contain, protect and bring the light. This formal analogy is found in blown glass, thanks to different color combinations and accurate polished wire
engraving, as well as to a rich and sophisticated aesthetics.
Through a process of mirroring and metallization this new ‘transmirror’ effect is revealed when the lamp is turned on or off. When the lamp is turned off it is completely silver or copp
er mirrored. Turn the lamp on and you will get a surprising result. In the copper lamp the central and upper parts remain mirrored and keep the light in, but the lower part reveals an unexpected and hidden transparency letting the light glow downwards whe
n turned on. The Gong silver when turned off appears completely mirrored. But turn the light on and it is completely transformed. The upper and middle parts become translucent, diffused by a special inner coating letting the light shine through but diffus
ed by a delicate covering effect. The lower part as in the copper version becomes transparent letting the light shine downward. On or off, two very different effects. And an exciting new addition to the Prandina collection.
