Forwards, sideways, backwards

String’s versatile shelving system helps people organise their lives in uncountable homes and public spaces around the world. In spring 2019, the company will launch String Outdoor, the iconic design now in galvanized metal, created for outdoor use. In String Outdoor, the classic String panels are combined with shelves created by designers Anna von Schewen and Björn Dahlström.
This popular shelving system has been a household item for decades, easily recognisable by its iconic panels that look like ladders of metal thread. String shelving is found in all types of environments worldwide. Now, this timeless shelving system can also be used for stylish, functional outside storage.
The new galvanized version of the shelving system is comprised of two different materials. The shelves are made in aluzinc, steel coated with aluminium-zinc that is moisture and rust resistant.
“The material we use requires no additional surface treatment. Should rusting occur, the material has the ability to mend itself and stop the rust from spreading,” says Jonas Wetterlöf, CEO at String Furniture.
The floor panels are made of unleaded steel that is hot-dip galvanized, in other words the panels are dipped in a molten zinc bath. This treatment protects the steel from corrosion and considerably extends its service life. Both the shelves and floor panels are produced in southern Sweden, as are all the other products in the String product range.
