The furniture whisperer

In the exhibition “Typecasting. An Assembly of Iconic, Forgotten and New Vitra Characters,” Robert Stadler lends furniture a voice. Let’s take a listen!
With the Place Sofa, Jasper Morrison reinterprets a commercially prevalent typology: the modern, low-sitting, horizontally defined sofa, typically of Italian origin. With carefully chosen proportions, a high degree of seating comfort and an absence of decorative details, the Place Sofa offers all the attributes of this popular furniture category and concentrates them in their purest form.
A characteristic feature of the Place Sofa are the wide voluminous cushions with softly rounded edges. In combination with a relatively low back, they put an emphasisis on the horizontal, which becomes even further accentuated by use of a precisely executed continuous plinth panel. Jasper Morrison dispenses with seams to the greatest extent possible, showing the high-quality fabrics and leather to full advantage in large, uninterrupted expanses. A complex internal foam structure, with the topmost chambered-cushion padding filled with feathers and polyurethane foam rods, makes the cushions pleasantly soft to sit on.
The Place Sofa includes all the necessary options for a sofa that will satisfy every wish and need – in addition to a two-seater and a three-seater, the available elements permit corner solutions to be configured. These can also be complemented by a Chaise Longue as well as an Ottoman.
