Ayala Serfaty created an atmospheric, brittle and fragile light installation - a tissue of light at once material and immaterial-entitled Soma (body in Greek). Thin filaments of glass were woven to produce spatial structures which were sprayed with a poly
mer to generate a skin-like crust, a membrane of sorts. The installation originated in materials research in which Serfaty has engaged since
2002. The manual work process is akin to a transformation of a calligraphic drawing into a three dimensional fo
rm. In the course of six years of work, natural "landscape formations" have crystallized to spawn the current installation, topography of light.
