Relaxation, super-yacht style
12 December 2012
In September of this year, the 72-meter-long yacht Stella Maris was presented to the public at the Monaco Yacht Show in Monte Carlo. Conceived with every imaginable luxury, it was built by VSY in the Italian seaside resort of Viareggio. The yacht’s design was entrusted to the expertise of Norwegian architect Espen Øino in cooperation with Laurent Giles Naval Architects and the interior design concept was developed by Michela Reverberi.

The color scheme is clearly inspired by the surrounding Mediterranean beaches with their sandy beige and blue tones. The designers selected materials that are recyclable and environmentally-friendly, in harmony with the element in which the yacht is at home.

While waves pound at the hull out on the high seas, the sun decks provide a relaxing refuge for the yacht’s owner and her guests. The outdoor furniture on all four decks had to meet required high standards, which is why the design team opted for the “Aqua” collection of premium-quality seating and lounge furniture by design entrepreneur Paola Lenti based in the Meda district of Milan. Her design company was also commissioned to create a number of bespoke pieces especially for the Stella Maris. This project consolidates Paola Lenti’s presence in the yachting sector and its leading position as far as versatility, choice of material, colours and outdoor design and furniture are concerned.

The “Float” armchairs and poufs were designed by Francesco Rota and boast a polyester cushion filled with countless polystyrene balls, which adapts to the seating position of the user. The removable outer covers are available in several fabrics suitable for outdoor use, “Light”, “Rope M” and “Aquatech”. The “Sabi” lounger features a solid wood and steel frame, upholstered with either of the company’s signature materials “Rope” or “Aquatech”. The “Shell” poufs and “Cove” sunbeds and loungers complete the outdoor landscape that adorns the decks of Stella Maris. To satisfy specific requirements, custom cushions were produced in guaranteed materials, the result of Paola Lenti´s years of experience in the textile sector, offering the best comfort together with high resistance and quality.

Paola Lenti’s furniture is simple and elegant, while the variety of shapes, materials and colors on offer opens up a world of design opportunities both indoors and out. Furthermore, thanks to the minimalist aesthetic, individual elements combine to form seating and lounge worlds that look as though they’d been created by the very nature surrounding them.
