Materialica

The 14th International Trade Fair for Materials Applications, Surfaces and Product Engineering runs from October 18-20 in the halls of the new trade-fair complex in Munich. It is sub-divided into Lightweight Design, Smart Materials and Processes. The range is rounded out to include special shows entitled "Nano Application Europe" and "Materials for Batteries", the award of the 9th Materialica Design & Technology Award and five specialist congresses.

International Design Alliance Congress in Taipei

The International Design Alliance Congress in Taipei has set itself the goal of fostering a dialog between designers and decision-makers. Outstanding international managers will lecture on October 24-26 at the International Convention Center in Taipei under the title "Design at the Edges" on issues such as economic development, Internet, biotech, urban planning and international migration.

Designers' Open

160 exhibitors from ten European countries present products from the fields of interior, fashion and industrial design on the occasion of the 7th Designers' Open held on the grounds of the former cotton spinning factor in Leipzig. The exhibition is sub-divided into the sections DO/Market, a sales platform for end consumers and retailers, and DO/Industry, which will host a conference on the topic of "smart materials – new design". The event, which runs from October 28-30, also features an accompanying program of workshops, lectures, film screenings and parties.

Cologne Design Prize

Anyone wanting to view the best final-year projects from the Cologne Design workshop attached to the Cologne International School of Design and its international partner schools will find plenty of opportunity from October 28 to November 20 at Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Cologne – at the exhibition on the Cologne Design Prize.

Conserving digital artworks

What will happen to our cultural memory if its storage is subject to permanently changing systems? The exhibition on "Digital Art Works. The Challenge of Conservation" runs from October 29, 2011 till February 12, 2012 at Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie in Karlsruhe and displays classics of digital art, while focusing on collecting, exhibiting and preserving computer-based artworks and highlighting the various processes of digital conservation.
