Who designs design?

Designers and industry experts as well as established scientists, postgraduate and undergraduate students are invited to participate in the 8th annual conference of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Designtheorie und -forschung (German Society for Design Theory and Research, DGTF) on October 21 and 22 at the university-campus Hochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Entitled "Wer gestaltet die Gestaltung?" (Who designs design?), the conference will address how theory is currently formed in the field of participatory design.

The trade fair UrbanTec, to premiere from October 24 to 26 in Cologne, highlights the development potential increasing urbanization entails and presents technologies capable of improving urban life despite climate change, raw material shortages and population growth.

Tokyo Designers Week

From November 1 to 6, Tokyo Designers Week will offer a platform for mutual exchange among designers, companies and galleries. Throughout the entire city, stores, galleries and cafés will present design, art and music under the motto "Love for Earth, People and Objects".

Significant black and white

Abstraction, elegance and timelessness – as well as a claim to the absolute and an expression of demarcation and protest. What significance do black and white have in the various cultural circles, in fashion, design and architecture? These are the topics examined by the exhibition "Schwarz Weiss – Design der Gegensätze" (Black and White – Designing Opposites), which opens its doors from November 9, 2011 to March 4, 2012 at Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich.
