MoMA: exhibition "Millennium Magazines" on art and design magazines

Magazines afford many artists and designers a good framework for publishing their works without delay. The MoMA is now dedicating a full-fledged show to the medium – it covers countless aspects from publishing to distribution. Entitled "Millennium Magazines", the exhibition will run from February 20 thru May 14 and will present a broad spectrum of international publications dating from 2000 or later – from the mass-circulation trendsetters to the small essentially conceptual editions.

IDD Congress: Method to the madness

Fear of a sheet of white paper or sudden inspiration while under the shower, what designer doesn't know the feeling? But the title "Method to the madness" of the 3rd German Designer Congress suggests instead that creativity can be carefully managed and invites you to help explore the question on March 5 at the Casino Zollverein in Essen. There, product designer Nils Holger Moormann will explain why too much knowledge is not necessarily a source of intelligence and graphic designer Ruedi Baur will outline how many words you need to change the world. Prior registration for the congress is mandatory.

Martin Gropius Building: Palms, beach and art from Los Angeles

Over 60 institutions and galleries took part in the exhibition project on "Pacific Standard Time: Art in Los Angeles 1950-1980", which was recently on view in the United States. From March 15 thru June 10m the key statements from the show will also be on display in Berlin's Martin Gropius Building: works by internationally renowned artists such as David Hockney, John Baldessari or De Wain Valentine. The exhibits include not only paintings, ceramics and sculptures, but also postcards, posters and artist's catalogs that offer many an exciting insight into the networks of the post-War West Coast art scene.

Marta Herford: Recycling concepts

What does waste actually mean? It's well worth giving seemingly worthless things a second chance, as is ably demonstrated by the show for what is now the fifth edition of the Recycling Design Prize 2012, which run at Museum Marta Herford from February 18 thru April 1. Nomination criteria for meaningful recycling product concepts: not just quality design and eco-compatibility, but also items that if possible are mass produced and made by young people or the physically challenged.
