Shaping space
von Sophia Muckle | Sep 18, 2007

The company Alape was set up more than a hundred years ago by Adolf Lamprecht. Located in Penig, Saxony it initially made enamel products before gradually shifting its focus to the bathroom. Production concentrated on sinks and bathroom furniture, and over the years a close cooperation with designers and architects evolved. In the 1980s the firm's successful cooperation with sieger design caused a stir not only in the design sector. Since 2001, Alape has been part of the Dornbracht Group and has positioned itself internationally. Meanwhile the company sees itself as an enabler for individual architecture in the bathroom area. Essentially this translates into adapting to individual applications and contexts while offering maximum technical and aesthetic quality. This ambitious goal is not only made possible by a broad spectrum of standard solutions but also the diverse options allowing products to be adapted to special architectural or creative requirements. This also includes special developments for individual projects; the use of enameled steel enables almost every conceivable form combined with the very best quality.

However, in line with its brand promise "shaping space? Alape does not only concentrate on individual products but working in dialog with architects and designers keeps its eyes on space as an organizing principle. This is why the individual components can be combined with one another on a modular basis from the washbasin through to the base section and accessories. This intelligently coordinated system in which all the technical interfaces fit, makes Alape into a kind of platform for design, technology and realization. It was hardly surprising that recognition for this achievement crafted in cooperation with sieger design would not be long in coming. Already in 2006 the product area Components received the German Design Award in silver. But this prize from the Federal Ministry for Industry and Labor was just one of many prizes Components garnered. It already succeeded in convincing the jury of the IF design award 2005 and the good design award Chicago 2004.
