Biographie

Beth Galí studied industrial design at the Eina school from 1966 to 1969. In 1982, she also graduated in architecture at the ETSAB (School of Architecture of Barcelona). Having been a great admirer and student of Federico Correa at the Eina school and of Alfonso Milá at the faculty of architecture, Galí considers they gave hear the greatest support to her professional career.

For this reason, she coordinated and wrote part
of the book that the Architect's Association of Catalona published on both architects as a tribute
in 1997. In 1965, Galí helped to found the family
firm G-3 by contributing with some designs, such as the cubic modules in methacrylate, the AT 229
high-fidelity amplifier or the articulated Aladino bookshelf.

From 1982 to 1988, she worked at Barcelona's city council, where she planned public spaces, such as
the Joan Miró park (with Màrius Quintana and Joan Miró) or the Túnel de la Rovira park, among many others. Together with Màrius Quintana, she designed the Lamparaalta streetlamp (1983), that would light the Joan Miró park palmtrees with reflected light.
It became a lighting bestseller from its beginnings, and was awarded an ADI FAD Delta de Plata in 1984.

Beth Galí is known worldwide for her imaginative projects around Europe, in which she searches to promote a pedestrian way to live public spaces.
They include the remodelling project of the Patrick and Gran Parade streets in Cork (Ireland, 1999),
the historic district of s'Hertogenbosch (Holland, 1993-1998), Roermond (Holland, 1995-1998), and Dublin (Ireland, 2002), or the urban spaces of Piet Smith in Rotterdam's pier (Hollan, 1996), for which she designed the Bici Línea bicycle rack.

As for Spain, Galí has also undertaken numerous projects, such as the Zafra park in Huelva (1994),
or the Joan Miró library (1990) and the swimming area at the Forum (2004), both in Barcelona.
Galí has an intense academic collaboration, as a Town-planning professor at the ETSAB and the School of Design of the Harvard University, and as a visiting lecturer in other many universities in Europe. Furthermore, she has written a wide number of articles for national and international magazines. Moreover, Beth Galí's open spirit can be seen in her Met-room project, a space located under her studio BB+GG for different activities related with plastic, music, and architecture. 1998 was a year of acknowledgement: she was awarded with the
National Town-planning Award of Holland, an exhibition on her career was inaugurated in s'Hertogenbosch, and the Het Kruithuis museum in s'Hertogensbosch published "Beth Galí,
architecture & design 1966-1998", that the Península publishing house edited in Spain.

Beth Galí has been acknowledged on many occasions for her work both by the FAD and the ADI FAD.
She has been continuously collaborating with them, and is in fact the FAD's current President. Galí has been much related to Santa & Cole. During 1987-89 she was the Director of the Urban collection, and Santa & Cole's today's catalogue includes many of her urban designs, such as the Lamparaalta, Latina or Sara streetlamps, or the Bici Línea bicycle rack.
