Kanji Ueki was born in Tokyo and later graduated from Keio University. In '69 he started working at RINASCENTE, Milano, where he was responsible for the deisgn section of the agency. Two years later, after he has been establishing himself in Milano, he started working for Aldo Jacober in his architect office and gained more practical experience. In 1976 he was finally able to establish his own design office back in tokyo with the name Casappo & Associates, later resulting to win the Commercial Space Design Award with his 'Cafe Cappucino' design. In 1986 following with the Diamon Award (REVILLON), 1998 the Design Excellence Award (Obrero), 2003 Gold Medal for the Apple Store, which was again awared in 2004 as "THE BEST STORE OF THE YEAR 2004" (TOUCH), and in 2006 the Kanazawa Urban Structure Award for FUKUMITSUYA - a sake shop.
