Maria Maier, born in 1927, was still in her early teens when she and her parents fled from their native Yugoslavia and went to live in the U.S.A.
In New York she met and married Robert Bloch, a Swiss born engineer.
He died a few years later and Mary decided to study interior design at Skolen for Boligindretning Frederiksber and she graduated in 1956 in Copenhagen.
She started her career being employed by Finn Juhl but managed after a few years to start her own business as designer of furniture and textiles paint collections.
She was more than 50 years old when she dropped her design career and began studying psychology. After her graduation she practised as a specialist in refugee-problems.
During the last part of her life Mary called herself Maria Beatrice Bloch.
