Modular variety
As a family-run business based in Rheinau, Baden, Brunner has been designing and manufacturing furniture since 1977 that opens up new possibilities – always with the aim of creating durable quality “Made in Germany”. This philosophy also shapes the new Design System: in collaboration with the Ippolito Fleitz Group, Brunner has developed a range that does not react to short-lived trends, but instead forms a harmonious foundation for the long term. To kick things off, 15 colour schemes have been carefully curated and precisely coordinated. They build on Brunner’s core philosophy: furniture and spaces should be well thought-out, functional and atmospheric – tailored to individual needs. As a result, each of the selected colours has its own character, works across different materials and yet remains part of a harmonious whole.
‘Midnight’ is a deep, confident shade of blue that adds character to products without dominating the scene. It is a timeless colour that provides a calm backdrop while remaining ever-present. 'Tourmaline' brings a subtle sense of tension: clear, mineral-like and subtly vibrant, with an almost crystalline precision. 'Olive' conveys serenity, combining different materials to create a balanced overall look characterised by the muted green of Mediterranean landscapes. 'Straw' is a friendly, bright shade with natural warmth that opens up spaces without appearing dominant. 'Deer' feels warm and organic, inspired by natural brown and red tones that add subtle accents. 'Earth' lends substance and durability, evoking hints of clay, soil, and the tranquillity of naturally formed landscapes. Explore these and other colours in detail on the website below.
The decision to adopt a design system was a deliberate one. 'For the first time, we wanted to create a holistic colour and material concept that would clearly structure our product range while ensuring its future-proofing,' explains Brunner's development team. The aim was to create a consistent range that offers guidance without restricting design diversity and establishes a common language that transcends individual product lines. This approach aligns with Brunner’s general working method: in close collaboration with renowned designers, furniture is created that meets high aesthetic standards while impressing with its functionality. As one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of chairs, tables and contract furniture, Brunner combines genuine craftsmanship with state-of-the-art production technology because producing high-quality furniture requires experience, care and expertise.
A key focus of the design system was long-term relevance. The colour palette deliberately avoids trendy colours in favour of calm, timeless shades. With up to seven shades, variations in brightness can be applied to different materials. This differentiation allows for flexibility in the details without compromising the clarity of the overall design. The colours were not merely defined in theory; they were also considered in the context of different materials, such as wood, metal, plastic and textiles. It is this interplay that formed the logic underpinning the system. The Brunner Design System is not intended to be a rigid set of rules, but rather a modular structure that will grow alongside the product range. In future, new developments will be integrated directly into the colour and material palette. Existing ranges will also be adapted in this spirit, step by step. This approach reflects Brunner’s principle of continuously thinking ahead to ensure long-term quality. This approach ensures that the range remains organic, open and consistent.
Through the Design System, Brunner conveys an attitude that has always defined the company: a commitment to precision and reliability, and an in-depth understanding of the impact of colour and materials on spaces – creating furniture to accompany people in well-considered spaces.
