Curtain up!
The design of the table is characterised by wave-shaped elements that are modelled directly from the solid wood using CNC milling technology. According to the duo Läufer & Keichel, the design is based on an architectural, sculptural approach: "the vertical waves, which are reminiscent of a curtain, float slightly above the floor and support the table top like the roof of a building," they say. The table waves for "Curtain Couch" are half the height of their predecessor "Curtain". "Everything else was a question of proportions, distances and protrusions of the table tops to the waves," says Läufer & Keichel. After being milled from solid ash, oak or American walnut, the expressive side panels are sanded by hand, which gently emphasises their curves.
Zeitraum only processes solid hardwoods from renewable sources at its location in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps and does not use any chemical treatment. To allow the wood to develop its natural warmth both haptically and visually, the surfaces are left open-pored with organic hard wax oil. For the 27 millimetre thick table top, you can choose between a round, square and rectangular shape. The transition to the flowing shape of the base is particularly harmonious thanks to the profiled edges.
The dynamic product family also includes the "Curtain Console" console table, for which the designers had to build the solid wood block higher. "To ensure that the wave elements fit under the narrow top format of the console, they are shortened to one and a half arches and positioned diagonally under the top. This results in a better view of the waves, so that the 'curtain' image can unfold even more effectively," says Läufer & Keichel. With the further development of "Curtain" for Zeitraum, a multifaceted trio of tables has been created that offers the right solution for every room.
