Danish edges and Italian curves
Jul 20, 2015

At 23 stories, Copenhagen’s “AC Bella Sky” is the highest hotel in Scandinavia at present. And its architecture is certainly striking: Denmark’s 3XN Arkitekter came up with two asymmetrical, edgy towers that tilt in opposite directions and are linked by the two-story podium and a bridge on the 23rd floor. The frontage is made of colored prefabricated concrete panels: either black or white.
Inside the hotel, Danish architecture meets Italian design – the refined furniture by Arper rounds out the conference rooms and promises perfected seating comfort in the public zones. 3XN Arkitekter continue the clear, classic color concept of the façade in the interior, where the monochromatic furniture contrasts with the bright white walls and ceilings. In this way, the guests in the conference rooms can enjoy using Arper “Catifa 53” series office swivel chairs – the completely black chairs are exceptionally elegant. The frame and seat shell boast a curved silhouette and refined legs to create a very feminine look and a strong sense of weightlessness. Any for the more casually inclined, the Lounge version “Catifa 60 Lounge” with a broader seat and a cantilever mechanism, is equally comfortable. And the long “Nuur” tables with their wafer-thin tops and straight legs made of aluminum go perfectly with the seating. The architects took a far more playful approach to the seating in the public zones in the hotel. There, along with matching side tables small poufs from the “Pix Mini” line in tender pastel colors, such as old rose and dove blue,“ form color highlights and invite guests to enjoy a coffee break.
