Room for inspiration

The Design Post Cologne presents a programme with many innovations to kick off the year: From 16 to 18 January 2022, Floor van Ast and her team will be organising an exciting event that offers visitors a colourful programme both locally and digitally.
1/10/2022

Three new brands will give an insight into their product range during the "Novelties 2022" event at Design Post Cologne from 16 to 18 January 2022: the Dutch design company Cascando, Kalon Studios based in Los Angeles and Germany, and the furniture manufacturer Prostoria from Croatia. Three exciting producers who combine tradition and the present in their portfolio as naturally as the sustainable creation of their products. The showroom in the listed three-hinged arch hall also creates new perspectives in 2022, such as on the new "Dew" table by Sabine Marcelis for arco. The designer will be present temporarily. Jorre van Ast, who runs the family business arco, will also offer a Q&A.

The brand partners again made good use of the quiet time between the years to redesign many exhibition areas from the ground up. These can be explored, for example, as part of the "Inspire Walks". In order to provide both on-ground and digital guests with a comprehensive offer, each company will be presented in film sequences on the YouTube channel and the website of Design Post Cologne. There is also a lot to discover in the guest contribution by the planning software manufacturer pCon in cooperation with Création Baumann. With the help of augmented reality, rooms and products can be digitally configured in advance for efficient design.

In addition to the already established manufacturers and creatives, this year Design Post Cologne is giving a platform to the attitudes of graduates: Floor van Ast has selected three projects by German Design Graduates for a special exhibition. Anna Koppmann's "Fresh Wood" shows a way of processing locally harvested damaged wood while it is still wet into durable solid wood furniture using simple production methods and tools. In "regrowth", Simon Gehring explores the connection between computational design and the use of residual materials from the wood industry. Existing potentials of wood resources could thus be better used and serve for new design qualities in furniture designs. Svenja Boissel and Lil Petersen are investigating the use and processing of textile waste products in the material study re:TEX. The aim is to identify new potential for the design of innovative, textile surfaces in cooperation with the regional textile industry. Martin Beeh, founder of the design office beeh_innovation and materials.cologne initiator will present the forward-looking concepts in a talk with the graduates.

The three-day event "Novelties 2022" at Design Post Cologne from 16 to 18 January 2022 will thus offer numerous opportunities to get to know new design products, creative designs and plenty of space for networking. (am)
