International High-Rise Award 2026/27: The Nominees

The nominees for the 2026/27 International High-Rise Award have been announced: From more than 1,000 new skyscrapers worldwide built over the past two years, 30 projects from 12 countries on five continents were selected.

For 22 years, the prize has been jointly sponsored and awarded by the City of Frankfurt am Main, the German Architecture Museum (DAM), and DekaBank. Every two years, a high-rise building is selected for this award that exemplifies sustainability, exterior design, and interior spatial qualities, as well as social and urban planning aspects, in an exemplary design. Additional criteria include innovative construction technology and cost-effectiveness. The International High-Rise Award is considered one of the world’s most important architectural awards for high-rise buildings. It is aimed at architects and developers whose buildings are 100 meters tall and were completed within the past two years.

This year’s research by the DAM confirmed the trend toward an increasing number of mixed-use high-rises, which have repeatedly been among the finalists since 2014. Features that were once considered unique, such as extensive greenery or the construction of high-rise clusters, have long since become standard. Due to the shortage of suitable building sites and growing environmental awareness, the existing building stock is increasingly becoming a focus in high-rise construction. While China, followed by the U.S. and Australia, continues to account for the majority of high-rise construction, South America, particularly Argentina and Brazil, as well as Singapore are currently emerging as exciting hotspots for high-rise architecture. Ultimately, 30 projects from 12 countries, spanning five continents, were nominated for the 2026/27 International High-Rise Award.

The five finalists will be announced this fall from this group. The winner of the International High-Rise Award will be named on November 3, 2026, at the Paulskirche in Frankfurt am Main.
